To The Man With The Metal Detector At The Park

What are you looking for
In the middle of the park
On the edge of the sports field
Where the little kids play?

Will you fill in the holes you are digging?
Or will someone unsuspecting
Step into a space
Filled with nothing
And break their ankle?

What kind of treasures do you expect to find?
There are no remnants
Of ancient civilizations here
No cache of pirate treasure
In the middle of the landlocked plains.

Do you have a plan?
A grid you fill in square by square,
Or do you look haphazardly
Like the embodiment
Of a cinematic conspiracy board?
I hope you find what you’re looking for.

And by the way,

Thanks for filling in the holes.
