My big kids were old enough to stay up until midnight to greet the new year with us this year, so we found a countdown clock on youtube and made new year’s resolutions. There were a lot of reading related goals. For me, along with my reading goals, I would really like to continue growing as a writer. There is a part of me that really wishes I had been able to get my mental furniture arranged a bit earlier in my life and regrets time that feels wasted, but, to misquote the phrase “The best time to start something is in your twenties, and the second best time is now.” So, casting that tinge of sadness upon the Lord, I will attempt to be a good steward of the now and trust that “he who holds the future” does, in fact have the future well in hand.
In order to actually accomplish this, I think I’m going to have to attempt to get up earlier. I need quiet time to read and write, and, let’s face it, life with 4 kids doesn’t provide a ton of that. Pray for me. I also want to get an earlier start because I started a new devotional book that I want to do with the family, and I need to get some breakfast on the table early enough to be able to do it. It is called “Be Thou My Vision: A Liturgy For Daily Worship” by Jonathan Gibson. The COVID years felt really spiritually dry for me in a lot of ways, and this book has really encouraged and excited me in a way that I haven’t felt in awhile.
So this is a lot of writ & not much whimsy, but here’s to 2023 and whatever adventures it has in store.
Cheers!
